Google Expeditions is an education initiative, a virtual reality teaching tool that lets students lead or join immersive virtual trips all over the world — get up close with historical landmarks, dive underwater with sharks, or even visit the outer space.

The company recently announced the Expeditions VR tours to the public through a new App available for both iOS and Android.

While Expeditions aims at the classrooms, the new app will feature a single-handed mode that allow people to explore the over 500 available tours on their own. Albeit, you’ll need to connect your device over Wi-Fi and have a guide to direct the explorers through the tour.

Google has added some nifty features to improve the experience, including annotations, which will enable a guide to draw inside the 360 sphere and bring attention to certain features of the environment in VR.

All that's required to give the Expeditions tour a peek is a Cardboard or Daydream VR headset and an Android or iOS device.
