eBay employs AI to let shoppers find items using photos



eBay, the online multinational e-commerce platform facilitating consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales has scheduled to introduce "Image Search" feature to let users shop by uploading a photo onto the app’s search bar.

The new features will be coming to its mobile apps for Android and iOS, with the image matching capabilities to help customers search for items, especially handy for products that are not familiar to them but having photos on their device.

Also, "Find It On eBay" feature will allow shoppers on any social media platform such as Pinterest or simply browsing through their favorite blog or website - can simply “Share” the URL with eBay and the eBay mobile app will surface listings of the product.

The Image Search feature is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to bring new ways for shoppers to search for their favorite items with images that inspire.

With these innovative ways to shop, eBay will allow people to quickly find the items they love, making the entire internet shoppable on their mobile device.

Albeit, eBay already employ AI across the shopping experience making the Marketplace’s vast product catalog easily searchable, the new enhancement means even richer results and filtering - from new, nearly new and used items.

The Find It On eBay and Image Search features will be available this Fall. And Image Search will be supported on both Android and iOS, while Find It On eBay will be launching with Android.
